10月25日、イラクの首都バグダッド中心部の法務省庁舎などの近くで自動車爆弾が２件連続して爆発し、ロイター通信などによると、130人以上が死亡、600人近くが負傷した。
バグダッドでは８月にも首都中枢を狙った連続テロで約100人が死亡しているが、死者数でそれを上回り、今年で最悪規模の惨事となった。
地元治安当局によると、法務省や労働省近くの交差点で車が爆発。
首都行政庁舎の近くでも爆発があった。
周辺の建物の壁やガラスが崩れ落ちたほか、近くの車数十台も破壊、炎上し、死傷者が多数に上った。
ダッバーグ政府報道官は国際テロ組織アルカイダ系の武装勢力か、旧フセイン政権の支配政党バース党の残党が犯行に関与しているとの見方を示した

７月 ５日、中国：新疆ウイグル自治区の区都ウルムチで５日夜に発生した暴動で、国営の新華社などは６日、少なくとも住民ら140人が死亡、828人が負傷したと報じた。
暴動は同市中心部で発生しており、多数の商店や車両が放火、破壊されるなどの被害が出た。
新華社は、亡命ウイグル人で組織する「世界ウイグル会議」（本部・ミュンヘン）がインターネットなどを使って「勇気を持て」などと暴動を扇動したと指摘した。 中国当局は国外からの指揮を受け、国内の組織が実行した暴力犯罪と判断。 中国は10月に建国60周年の記念式典を控えており、事態を重視した中国指導部は今後、同自治区を中心に国内の引き締めを一層強化するとみられる *-*

声明によれば、スーダン国境沿いにあるファラジェで25、26の両日、教会などがLRA部隊に襲われ、約150人が死亡。
このほか、少なくとも4地域でも同様の襲撃があり、計336人が殺害された。
避難民は6500人に上り、拉致された子供もいるという

副大統領には、オバマ氏が選挙戦を共に戦い、既に指名している民主党のジョセフ・バイデン上院議員が就任すると思われる。

７月１１日、ペルー中部にある古代アンデス文明のセチン・バホ遺跡で、約５５００年前の紀元前３５００年ごろ造られた円形広場の跡を発見したと発表した。
ドイツとペルーの考古学チームが発掘調査をしていた。
米州大陸最古の人工建造物となるとスペイン国営ＥＦＥ通信が報じている。
古代アンデス文明は、ペルーを中心に祭祀(さいし)を行う共同体として発展。
紀元前３０００～２５００年ごろには文明が形成され始めたとされるが、正確な起源はわかっておらず、同チームは今回の発見が、文明の起源を解明する上で極めて重要としている。
ペルー文化庁などによると、広場は直径１０～１２メートルで、社交の場だった可能性があるとしている。
円形広場後は、紀元前２１００～１６００年に建造された建物の下から見つかったと報道している

Ballots were counted for the more than 20 states that held primaries or caucuses on Tuesday. ABC television reports that Ms Clinton has ensured victory in 8 states, including New York as well as the most populous state of California. The network also says Mr Obama has sealed his victory in his home state of Illinois and 11 other states. ABC also reports that the 2 candidates are in a dead heat in the number of delegates they have won so far. The network says Ms Clinton has won 691 delegates, and Mr Obama 635. Ms Clinton and Mr Obama both told their supporters on Tuesday night that they will continue their campaign for the nomination. On the Republican side, ABC says Senator McCain is on track to winning 9 states. He is followed by former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney with 7 states and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee with 5. The network says the number of delegates for Mr McCain is 517, Mr Romney 220 and Mr Huckabee 159, giving Mr McCain a sizable lead. But Mr Romney and Mr Huckabee both said they were determined to continue their campaigns, meaning that the nomination races for both parties will go on. *-*
